I feel like the reason the director choice these colors is because its showing the moon character in darkness and he is the only light that is surrounding the night sky
For these colors the sky is still dark
The reason the director chose these colors is because the fox was finally able to help the moon spirit by becoming the Northern lights. The fox was happy and then stared flying across the night sky
